UVic 50th Anniversary Contest
Prize money: $2200

The Malahat Review, Canada’s premier literary magazine, invites entries from current University of Victoria students, UVic alumni, and greater Victoria-area writers to a one-time writing contest to mark the University of Victoria’s 50th Anniversary. Open Season Awards
Prize money: $3000
Entries due every November 1 (postmarked)
Writers are encouraged to enter The Malahat Review’s newest contest in three categories: poetry, fiction, and/or creative nonfiction. Winners are published in the Spring issue and split the prize money three ways. Read full guidelines for the 2012 Open Season Awards.
Novella Prize / Long Poem Prize
Prize money: Up to $2000
Entries due every February 1 (postmarked)
The two oldest and most prestigious contests that The Malahat Review offers, the Novella Prize and Long Poem Prize alternate in even and odd years respectively, with two prizes of $1000 each awarded in the former and a single prize of $1500 in the latter. Far Horizon Awards
Prize money: $1000
Entries due every May 1 (postmarked)
As a compliment to the Novella and Long Poem prizes, the Far Horizons Awards are short-form contests, with the Far Horizons Award for Short Fiction given during odd years and the Far Horizons Award for Poetry in even. Constance Rooke Creative Nonfiction Prize
Prize money: $1000
Entries due every August 1 (postmarked)
To nurture The Malahat Review’s newest genre, the Constance Rooke Creative Nonfiction Prize was established in 2007. The winning entry appears in the Winter issue. Read full guidelines for the 2012 Constance Rooke Creative Nonfiction Prize.
